Board Breaking After at least one year of practicing, a student will be taught to break boards. To break a board is not a metaphysical feat of your “inner energy” source, but simply a confident, well aimed, and well practiced strike. Weather or not you have ever been attacked by a tree is also beside the point. Board breaking is simply a way for a student to measure the accuracy, speed, and effective power of their technique. Because a lot of the difficulty a student may encounter is related to their fear of striking a solid object, board breaking also develops a student’s ability to focus on the technique and not be distracted by their fear. Board breaking is actually quite safe and rewarding when practiced with some forethought (as are most other athletic endeavors) |

A variety of techniques can eventually be tested with board breaking. |

Students do their earliest board breaks with techniques they learned as a white belt and have been well developed. |

With practice students will add an increasing number of boards to raise the level of difficulty |
